Master Caster® Deluxe Casters

Contemporary design, strength and performance make these replacement casters an excellent choice for office and home furnishings. With appropriate stems and fasteners, each caster can be used on wood, metal and tubular metal chairs, furniture and other equipment. All casters carry the manufacturer's guarantee against defects in material and workmanship. To ensure proper support and safe rolling, neck must fit 1-1/2" diameter chair base so that base and caster fit together as a solid unit. HOW TO SELECT CASTERS:1. Remove caster from leg of chair base. 2. Match the stem of the caster to diagram. Select the correct length and diameter. (Tops of stems can be flat or rounded—either will fit.) 3. Determine if caster is to be used on chair mats, hard floors or carpeting. Choose soft wheel casters for use on chair mats, linoleum (vinyl), and hard floors; hard wheel casters for carpeting.

How do I know if this is the correct caster for my chair? Is there a guide to help me choose?
asked by Jorja on March 12, 2014

Hi Jorja,

How to measure your chair casters

Thank you for your question about Master Caster Deluxe Casters.

To ensure the you get the right casters for your chair, you'll need to measure the stem of one of your current casters and match it to the diagram.

You'll need to measure the length and the diameter of the caster stem.  It doesn't matter is your stem top is flat or rounded. Either will fit.

MAS23618 Casters come with two sets of caster stems:

  • B Stems: 7/16" dia. x 7/8" long
  • K Stems: 3/8" dia. x 1" long

If your caster stem fits either measurement, MAS23618 casters with fit your chair. You can find W Stem Casters here, and C Stem Casters here

Hope this answers your helps! You can find more information on chair casters in our buying guide.

I need stemless casters. Do these arrive with stems out?
asked by Phil C on April 13, 2016

Master Caster® Deluxe Casters are not stemless casters. Though some casters are shipped disassembled, the wheels will only fit the included stems.

We offer stemless casters via special order. These stemless casters only fit metal chair bases with welded stems. The welded stems must be 3/8" dia, and up to 1 5/16" long. If you would like to learn more about special ordering stemless casters, please give us a call at 1-866-501-6055.

Thanks so much for your question about the Master Caster Deluxe Casters.  This is such an interesting question because there are so many variable to consider when choosing the right caster such as stem size, material, and the flooring it would be used on.

Speaking to your question, specifically, about the MAS23622, these casters come 5 per set and include 5 "K" stems and 5 "B" stems and would not be considered "female" casters.

When you indicate that your chair is a "male" it sounds like you have what is called a welded base with stem.

Hope this answers your question.  Please remember that On Time Supplies offers time saving features like super fast delivery, online chat options, bulk pricing listed on the site as well as our best price up front.  We carry over 40,000 office supplies at discounted prices with most items ready to ship the same day.  We pride ourselves on offering world-class customer service and look forward to serving you.

My office chair has five casters. The currents are made by Shepherd, the wheel is about 2 1/4 inches. I tried to remove the caster from the chair and the caster pulled off the shaft but I was expecting the shaft to pull out the the wooden leg. The chair is used on carpet. Please advise what I should use and also should the shaft come out of the wood part of the chair? Thank you, Edward

Since your chair sits on a carpeted floor, you'll need hard wheel casters.

Now, there are two types wooden office chair bases: wood-clad and solid wood. Wood clad chair bases have metal cores, so it's possible that your caster stems are welded to the inner metal core. In that case, you'll need stemless hard wheel casters, available via special order. Just give us a call at 866-501-6055 and we'll take care of you.

If your chair has a solid wood base, you have to remove the old caster stems. This can be very difficult. We recommend prying the stems out with the claw side of a hammer. It may take some strength and determination! Good luck!

Once you have the stems out, you can install a new set of W-Stem Hard Wheel Casters. This is also a special order item. Again, give us a call at 866-501-6055 and we'll set you right up. Our hours are M-Th 9a-6p, Fr 9a-5p EST. We're closed Sat, Sun and major holidays.

The stem for the castor is a permanent part of the chair base. It looks to be 5/16 diameter. What should I buy to replace my broken castor? Thanks
asked by Joe on February 7, 2014

Hi Joe,

Thank you for your question about Master Caster Deluxe Casters.

Master Caster makes stemless casters specifically designed for chairs with welded stems. However, almost all chairs of that type have stems that are 3/8" diameter. Before you buy, please re-measure your stems. Stemless casters can only be applied to 3/8" diameter stems.

If you re-measure and find that your stems are indeed 5/16" diameter, I am 99.9% sure they can be removed. Of course, that is sometimes easier said than done!  If you are having trouble removing your chair stems, try using the claw side of a hammer to work them out of the base. A little WD-40 wouldn't hurt at this point either.

No matter what type of stem you use, make sure you get the right type of wheel for your flooring. Hard wheel casters for carpeted floors, soft wheel for hard floors and chair mats.

Hope this helps!
