Customer Questions & Answers

I have a Tempur-pedic chair model TP 9000. I need casters for use on a hardwood floor. The width of the caster stem is 3/8". The length of the stem from above the plastic base is 1" +. I couldn't pull the stem out from inside the plastic to determine the entire length of the stem. The diameter of the wheel is 2". Is the item # MAS564526 the appropriate replacement for use on hardwood flooring?

You don't need to know the exact length of your current stems to choose the replacements, nor remove the stem from the wheel. New stems should be the same length or shorter than your current set. However, you do need to match the diameters.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like you need 2" soft wheel casters with K stems. Soft wheel casters are the best choice for hard wood floors because they "give" and grip on hard surfaces. We offer a few options that should fit your needs:

I broke a wheel on my chair it has C size caster stems, but the stem will not come out from the chair, can I buy just the wheels without the stems? If not are the stems easily removed from the wheels? I was looking at the Duet Twin Wheels, 100 lbs./Caster, Nylon Bonded/Urethane, Matte Black, 5/Set those seem to be closest to what is currently on the chair.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question about Master Caster Duet Twin Wheels.

Unless you have an office chair by Steelcase, a manufacturer that  welds the stems to base, your caster stems will come out. It's just going to take some force. Try using a pair pliers, or hammer and flathead screwdriver to pry them out.

If you do have a Steelcase Chair with welded casters stems, you can special order stemless casters. Just give us a call at 866-501-6055. However, if you currently have 7/16" C stems, they can be removed. Plus, the stemless casters won't fit. Stemless casters only fit 3/8" diameter stems up to 1-5/16" long. Use a string to carefully measure your current casters' diameter.

Hope this answers your question!

I just purchased a new Tempur-Pedic® TP8000 Ergonomic Mesh Mid-Back Task Chair; Black and it came with carpet casters. I am using in on a hard wood floor, oak I think. I measured the stem and it is 1 inch long and 3/8 diameter. I included the part of the stem that is wider where it meets the chair in the 1 inch measurement. The stem part if looked at directly from the side resembles a "T." If I only measure the thin part of the stem it is 7/8 long. It appears to be your Type K. I do not quite understand what my options are. I believe the chair weighs 66 pounds and I weigh about 115 pounds. I also don't understand your pricing. Is is $41 per caster so then for 5 casters it would cost me $205? That must be wrong as the entire chair cost $299. So that part I must be misunderstanding. Please let me know.

From your description, "K" stem soft wheel casters appear to be your best bet. However, I can not make this recommendation without reservation because of the unusual shape of your caster stems. I recommend contacting Tempur-Pedic® for more information, or emailing us a picture of one of your casters. We are happy to do all we can to find the right casters for your chair. Just be sure to include the diameter of the narrow part of the stem.

Master Caster® casters are sold in sets of four or five. The "K" stem Master Caster® Duet Twin Wheels are sold in sets of five. The listed prices are per set, not per wheel.
