To change the lead in a Pentel Twist-Erase III Mechanical Pencil, pull the top half of the barrel off to reveal the inner lead reservoir.
Follow these short steps to complete the refill:
- Separate the pencil: Grip the soft rubber grip in one hand and the upper plastic barrel (near the clip) in the other. Twist slightly and pull them apart.
- Expose the chamber: You will see a plastic tube protruding from the bottom section where the leads are housed.
- Insert new lead: Drop 2 to 3 fresh 0.5 mm lead refills directly into the open tube. Avoid overfilling to prevent jamming.
- Reassemble: Push the top half of the pencil back onto the lower section until it firmly clicks into place.
- Advance the lead: Press down on the top eraser cap several times to feed the new lead through the metal tip.
