To open the compartment door, use the factory-set combination (0-0-0). Once opened, find the reset lever or recode tool (for models 5422D/5423D), which is a small yellow piece. Push this lever and adjust the number/symbol buttons to set your new combination. After setting, return the reset lever to its original position and scramble the dials to secure the safe. Unfortunately, there's no method to reset the lock externally if it's locked. Always remember your new combination to avoid being locked out.
