How to market your business as a green business

There are several advantages to going green in your office besides becoming more eco-friendly. In addition to frequently cutting operating costs, going green is a major PR bonus for any company and can therefor drive up sales and your client list. The key is to advertise the fact that you are an eco-friendly office. Though we should all continue developing more sustainable business models, there are things your office is doing right now you can brag about. 

Play up any green credentials.

Part of advertising is labeling and credentialing. If you are certified in a certain aspect of the “green” industry, make a point to show it off! For example, if you’re in the architecture/engineering industry and design a building to be LEED-certified, you certainly want to advertise it.

Tout your cost saving measures.

Regardless of what industry you’re in, using green technology gives you bragging rights, and you’d be crazy not to take advantage and brag. Most offices have some green initiatives to count, if only because the green way is often the most cost-effective way!

Let your customers know:

• You use Energy Star appliances.
• You've taken steps to eliminate paper waste, whether it's through e-mailed invoices or duplex printing.
• That you use recycled paper.
• How many employees work out of the home.

The most trivial-sounding things that are done to cut costs, whether in labor hours or overhead costs, and are friendly to the environment should be embraced and advertised. Clients may like to use a company that has “gone green,” but sometimes more importantly they’ll like the fact that such a company has a sound, economical business plan in mind. No one would want to hire a company that obviously wastes their resources, so any way that you save your company resources, bring it up and hammer it home.
